Ich Lerne Deutsch

Well, it's just as well im not working as i need time each day to do my German work, which is still not up to date - i'm a slow reader and i keep having to go back over parts.  I'll get there in the end, despite my fish-like memory. I'll have whole mornings soon, as Chook starts school 2nd August.

We had our orientation today, and i met the Head Teacher, the result of which is the Chook will now go into Second Grade.  Given that most of her friends are two years older, she should be ok - and height wise, she may still be taller than some!

I've been baking alot, only problem is i enjoy eating said baking, so today is the first day i have had no carbs.  Boo hoo, but given that only 3 pair of trousers fit, i'm going to have to keep it up - not really my fault, more to do with the massive dose of steriods in the injections i've had.  So when they wear out i'll be slim - about Christmas lol!

Chook and I have also been going to the pool.  I'm too chicken to get in the big pool, however the little pool is fun for Faith and I.  She wants to go in the water all the time, she's really getting confident, which is great, hoping there will be more lessons available soon.  The swimming pools here are free btw, nice!

We head to the park alot too, its pretty much at the end of the street.  With free powerpoints in the park, i took the laptop and tried to do some revision, a tad too noisy (not the keiki (children)) however we managed 2.5 hours. Perhaps the next days batch of cookies kept us going!

Doc has been working away, and hanging around.....

and graduating in Absentia.

The hens have been laying low, getting fruity.

We've been to the Lyman Museum, with a friend Leah from church.  The Lymans were the missionaries who came from New-Foundland, 7months on a whaling ship to build a church and give the gospel to the Hawaiian people.  We toured their house too.  Turns out the Principal at Chooks school is the great-great-grandaughter (possibly another great in there) of said Missionaries.  We began our school induction in said church, which adjoins chooks new school.  The Lymans were part of a split in the church, one half remaining at there, the other half becoming the Berean Bible Church.

Inside the Museum, was a fact, which will describe it better than me.  There are 5 volcanos on our island.  One is currently active, the largest, i can see from the house window, Mauna Kea, is often covered in snow and is home to the best Astronomy research 'golf balls' in the world.
